We urge you to support the leading comprehensive cancer center in the Middle East, the King Hussein Cancer Center, and the thousands of patients whose lives it attempts to save on a daily basis.

We all know that cancer has no borders and does not discriminate: it affects adults and children, men and women, rich and poor alike, whether in the United States or in the Middle East. In Jordan, the Center’s highly qualified team of 91 senior oncologists and health care professionals work round the clock for the benefit of thousands of patients from all over the Middle East. These patients could be your childhood friends, your relatives or simply fellow sufferers who might be doomed without this Cancer Center of Excellence at their doorstep.

The King Hussein Cancer Center (KHCC) is a unique institution. It is a non-governmental, not-for-profit institution and currently treats more than 3000 new patients each year from all over the Middle East. The success of the Center was a dream of our late King Hussein who broke all taboos by openly speaking about his cancer and combating it with great faith and courage.

Miracles have taken place at KHCC in the past six years. We have partnered with the best cancer institutions in the world: The National Cancer Institute of the National Institutes of Health, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and MD Anderson Cancer Center. The wealth of knowledge and accumulated talents now housed within the KHCC enable the Center to provide highly specialized unique programs in cancer care. As a result, KHCC has become the leading regional medical facility providing the best comprehensive cancer care to both adult and pediatric patients. It is also the only Center outside the United States to have received international accreditation from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations as a disease-specific center.

The above achievements could not have been accomplished without our generous donors. Our fundraising is geared to ensuring that we continue to provide the best comprehensive cancer care available to our patients and to alleviate their suffering.

The King Hussein Cancer Foundation USA (KHCF-USA) was born to provide our many friends in the United States with a conduit with which to support cancer patients in the Middle East. The Foundation benefits from the 501 (c) (3) tax exempt status making all your donations tax deductible.

At present, we are focusing our fundraising efforts to help save the lives of Iraqi patients, children and adults, who have neither access to cancer care in Iraq nor the means to finance their treatment. On average 25 patients present themselves each month at the King Hussein Cancer Center desperately seeking help.

Having seen the enormous and urgent need to help the steadily growing number of Iraqis seeking treatment at our Center, we could not turn a blind eye to this humanitarian crisis and thus have established the KHCF Iraqi Goodwill Fund in 2006.

Tragically, we cannot take on all cases, and this is why we are asking for your help to treat just one more person, just one more family.

Against this background, I am writing to urge you to donate to the Iraqi Goodwill Fund in order to help save Iraqi patients through KHCF-USA. By supporting this cause, you will be giving our patients a chance to get the best cancer care available and the ability to resume their lives as happy and productive members of their communities. This dream can only succeed with your help and our dedication.

It is a fact that cancer does not have to mean the end, neither in the United States nor in the Middle East. With your support, it can mean the beginning of a healthy, productive and happy life.

Dr. Suheil J. Muasher, President, KHCF USA

HRH Princess Ghida Talal, Vice-President, KHCF USA
