Ms. Amira Salaam Amro

Board Member

Born in Beirut, Amira spent her formative years in Dubai and Geneva, where she attended a French school until she graduated from high school. She then attended Stanford University in California, graduating with a B.A in English Literature with a focus in Creative Writing in 1999. She moved to the East Coast immediately after graduation to attend The Georgetown Law Center, and in 2002 moved to New York City where she worked a short time in corporate law in securities, before realizing that the corporate environment was not fulfilling for her. She has been a New Yorker ever since, where she continues to live with her husband and now two teenage sons who attend the Lycee Francais de New York, a school she is passionate about and for which she serves as vice-chair of development, and where her husband currently sits on the board.

An entrepreneur at heart and a fitness enthusiast, Amira opened Flywheel Sports in Dubai in 2010, which was the first American boutique fitness studio in the Middle East. She is a dedicated and creative fundraiser and volunteer and has helped raise important sums over the years, for the Lycee Francais de New York, and for Every Mother Counts, where she continues to be involved.

She is passionate about human rights, the status of refugees, immigrations rights, and access to health care and education, and enjoys above all the simple things in life like spending time and traveling with her family, reading, writing short stories and doing sports.
